Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

I offer individual therapy and enjoy working with a diverse clientele including adolescents and emerging adults. I incorporate traditional psychotherapy with body-centered approaches, and as a licensed clinical counselor and registered yoga teacher, focus on the dynamic interrelation of the mind, body, emotions, and spirit. Integrating the latest research on neuroscience and somatic therapies, I help clients befriend their bodies and use them as a gateway to awareness and healing.

Trained in Natural Lifemanship, a trauma-focused equine-assisted psychotherapy approach, I offer equine-assisted psychotherapy at Soulful Prairies in Woodstock, Illinois.

What does therapy look like with me?

In the psychotherapy office, sessions typically begin with an invitation to join me for a cup of tea and a chat beside the fireplace. Depending on what a client’s heart and body needs in the moment, we might converse the entire time, engage in mindfulness practices or art, or experiment with movement on the yoga mat. I work through a trauma-focused lens, and clients have complete agency in their process.

In the barn with the horses, sessions can look various ways. Depending on client needs, we might sit with the horses around us, engage in activities centered on curiosity and connection with these amazing beings, or simply experience mindfulness in nature. Again, it is dependent on client’s comfort level and desires.
